Monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) are heart healthy and help support
“good” cholesterol (HDL) and reduce “bad” cholesterol (LDL).
POLYUNSATURATED FATTY ACIDS
Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) are also liquid at room temperature.
Omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids are PUFAs considered essential in our diet
because we cannot synthesize them in the body.
Sources of omega-3 (EPA and DHA) include:
• Salmon
• Mackerel
• Tuna
Sources of omega-3 (ALA) include:
• Walnuts
• Canola oil
• Chia seeds
• Flax seeds
• Eggs that come from hens with a diet rich in omega-3
Sources of omega-6 include:
• Safflower oil
• Corn oil
• Walnuts
• Seeds
• Soy
