On March 8th we are celebrating International Women's Day (IWD). This celebration serves as a testament to the resilience and progress of women worldwide. From its origins in the early 20th century to its global significance today, IWD celebrates the achievements of women and advocates for gender equality. It's a time to reflect on the strides made in empowering women, particularly during menopause, a stage of life that has undergone significant transformation in recent years.
A Brief History
Clara Zetkin, a prominent German feminist, proposed the idea of an international day to advocate for women's rights and suffrage at the 1910 International Conference of Working Women in Copenhagen. The proposal received unanimous support, leading to the establishment of International Women's Day on March 19th, 1911, with millions of women and men participating in rallies and demonstrations across Europe. Over the years, it has evolved into a global celebration, recognized by the United Nations, and embraced by societies worldwide. Despite progress, gender inequality persists, highlighting the ongoing need for collective action towards gender parity.
Empowering Women in Menopause
Menopause, once shrouded in taboo, has undergone a remarkable transformation in both societal and medical realms in recent years. Women traversing this phase are no longer silenced; rather, their resilience and wisdom are celebrated. Despite strides made, significant challenges persist for menopausal women in various spheres, such as the workplace, partnerships, and home life, encompassing hormonal fluctuations, health issues, and societal stigmas.

As we celebrate International Women's Day, let us applaud the advancements in women's empowerment, particularly in menopause discourse. Let us recognize the courage and strength of women in midlife and advocate for their needs to be heard and addressed. CRACKING THE CODE OF MENOPAUSE FATIGUE
One of the things I noticed shortly after entering menopause was the decrease in my energy levels. I went from being a very active person who needed little rest to recharge to having to be very careful with my energy. I had to learn what I could do to improve my energy through my daily habits to conquer fatigue and lack of vitality with flair!
Reasons for Menopause Fatigue
Hormonal Fluctuations: The hormonal shifts characteristic of menopause, particularly the decline in estrogen and progesterone levels, can disrupt the body's natural balance. These hormonal changes can contribute to feelings of fatigue and lethargy, as they influence various bodily functions, including metabolism and sleep regulation.
Sleep Disturbances: Menopausal women frequently experience disruptions in their sleep patterns, ranging from insomnia to frequent awakenings during the night. Factors such as night sweats, hot flashes, and increased anxiety can all contribute to sleep disturbances, leading to insufficient rest and daytime fatigue.
Mood Swings and Stress: Menopause is often accompanied by changes in mood, including irritability, anxiety, and depression. The emotional rollercoaster ride combined with the stressors of daily life can drain energy reserves, leaving women feeling exhausted and depleted.
Metabolic Changes: As women age and transition through menopause, their metabolism may slow down, leading to decreased energy levels. Additionally, changes in body composition, such as decreased muscle mass and increased fat accumulation, can further impact energy levels and overall vitality.
Nutritional Deficiencies: Poor dietary habits and inadequate nutrient intake can exacerbate fatigue during menopause. By understanding the underlying reasons for menopause fatigue, you can take proactive steps to manage your symptoms effectively, such as prioritizing exposure to natural light in the morning, ensuring restorative sleep of at least 7 hours, engaging in work that motivates you, following a diet rich in nutrients, incorporating activities that bring you joy, and limiting stress factors to a maximum. Through this holistic approach encompassing hormonal balance, sleep hygiene, nutrition, stress management, and lifestyle modifications, you can reclaim your vitality and thrive not only during menopause but also beyond.
