For those familiar with my newsletter and my social media posts, you're well aware of my advocacy for choosing SEASONAL, LOCAL, and ORGANIC produce whenever possible. Why? It's about prioritizing clean eating for optimal health, supporting our local farmers, and maximizing nutrient intake! Today let's spotlight the DIRTY DOZEN. What's that, you ask?
The DIRTY DOZEN comprises items that tend to carry high levels of residual pesticides in conventional farming. Opt for the organic versions, especially if these are regulars in your diet.
Among these harmful substances, we find Xenoestrogens. Xenoestrogens, synthetic compounds mimicking estrogen, can disrupt hormonal balance in women during perimenopause and menopause, potentially exacerbating symptoms and contributing to hormonal fluctuations. Minimizing exposure is crucial for supporting overall hormonal health during this life stage.
On the flip side, the CLEAN FIFTEEN represent foods with minimal pesticides or toxins, deemed generally safe in their non-organic form.
